I first saw Angelo when they went to LA in 2009, I think, for a fan club live. I admit I haven’t really been following them super closely but I wanted to see them anyway :3

[6.23.12] Versailles presents Tokyo Metropolis with Matenrou Opera, Kaya, DaizyStripper, and 凛 (lin)

I have a lot of feelings about this commemoration event live. So much fun! Three of my favorite bands/musicians in one night!

somehow…the feeling of this concert felt somewhat routine?
but maybe that’s just because I’ve mostly been to tour finals before this? Like all the built-up feelings were expressed at those tour finals, so they were especially fun/interesting (Kaya’s theatrical performance) and moving (Matenrou Opera’s long MC during the encore)
Don’t get me wrong, I still like Versailles. I think they are all so very talented—Hizaki and Teru’s beautiful harmonies, Yuki’s awesome drumming, Masashi’s bass-playing…(ok, I’ll be honest, I don’t have nearly as strong of an opinion about Masashi, but that’s just because I don’t really know him as well. Don’t worry! I don’t dislike him!)
Anyway, the synchronized spins were entertaining and all, though considering how small the venue was, I felt that the interaction with the crowd was lacking. When I first saw them perform, I thought, “wow, they’ve got some great stage presence,” and I still think so. They are surely interesting to watch on stage, but somehow…the overall feeling didn’t seem very unique or special or different from when I last saw them. Yeah, we’ll go through all the motions: headbang, fist pump, shout your names…but it sort of lacked in the feeling of a special time spent together with the band and with the other fans.
Although! I did really enjoy when people started shouting for an encore, they shouted, “We are Versailles.” Then, at the very end of the concert, everyone in the venue linked hands, held them up high, and jumped together with Versailles!
Even though they only changed their name for legal reasons in the US (and they haven’t even been there in 4 years), the feeling behind the reason for their name change is still very strong.
(On a side note, I felt that the audience of this concert was much louder compared to that of Matenrou’s show!)
